The Tuxedo Manicure 30 minutes

The Tuxedo Manicure is the red carpet look of the moment for quirky celebs like Zooey Deschanel

REPARE THE CANVAS: A good finish depends on a good base. Ensure all nails are clean and oil free by cleansing with ESSENTIAL REMOVER.

BASE: Apply one coat UNDER COVER base coat on the nails. When this clever base coat turns matt you know it's ready to receive colour.

SILK SHIRT: to paint the shirt, which forms the base colour of the look, choose a simple light colour like DIAMOND ICE or PURE WHITE. Paint the entire nail but leave the free edge bare. The free edge is the white tip section of the nail - the part that would be painted white in a French manicure. Roll the polish bottle in your hands, never shake it. Shaking can cause air bubbles which can ruin a paint job. Ensure the right amount of polish is one the bush by wiping the brush against the neck of the bottle. Start painting using the opposite side of the brush. Present the brush 2-3mm from the nail cuticle and push the colour back towards the cuticle before making the usual sweep to the tip of the nail. Apply 2 thin coats of colour.

CORRECT: Tidy up any mistakes with the PRECISION CORRECTOR & BRUSH using small circular movements also perfect the curve before the unpainted tip.

COLLARS AND CUFFS: Select a dark colour to contrast with the white background for the bow tie buttons and cummerbund part of the look. You could even use a different colour for the bow tie or cummerbund. Our favourites are MISS BEHAVIN' and UNDERCURRENT.

CUMMERBUND: using a darker colour, sweep over the tip of the nail in a curve, filling in the section which was left unpainted. Allow the polish to flow into the space for a perfect line. The shorter the nails the smaller this section will have to be to leave space for the rest of the design. You can tidy with PRECISION CORRECTOR but be careful not to remove the base layer of polish.

BOW TIE & BUTTONS: Using a dotting tool (or a sharp pencil) dipped in the darker colour apply two large dots side by side at the top of the nail. Make sure you load the tool with more polish than usual, then using the dotting tool, drag the polish the meet between the dots, to create the shape of the bow tie. Afterwards, use the dotting tool again to make three dots leading down from the bow tie towards the cummerbund. If you're feeling bling, why not try using rhinestones for the buttons instead of polish? FINISH THE LOOK - Apply a coat of CRYSTAL FINISH top coat over the colour for a crystal-clear glossy finish and glass like shine. This top coat dries to a hard protective coat that will make your manicure last longer. With UV filters to protect the colour from bleaching.

SPRINT FINISH: Complete the treatment with MIRACLE DROPS Speed Dry Oil.
